The Current Assault on Sierra Forests: Talk and Discussion
The US Forest Service and the timber industry has been spraying unprecedented amounts of glyphosate and other toxic herbicides in California forests, and are planning to conduct extreme logging and further spraying of possibly up to ten million pounds of herbicides in sensitive ecosystems in the Feather River watershed in the Sierra, on unceded land of the Mountain Maidu, converting large swathes of public forest lands into privatized and poisoned tree plantations. The USFS and timber industry are using the public’s fear of wildfire to justify such extreme action, that will only increase risks to communities. Feather River Action! along with the John Muir Project and Plumas Forest Project are fighting this in court.
Feather River Action! Director and Spokesperson Josh Hart will share information about the project, what the implications are for climate, ecology and community safety, what the science says about glyphosate exposure and wildfire mitigation, and ways we can fight back against this growing insanity.
